A woman standing on a tree-lined rural road wearing a floral dress, cowboy boots, and a wide-brimmed hat with a decorative black bow, smiling with her arms crossed.

If you don’t know her name, you probably know her hat!

Jennifer Taylor is a lifelong public servant, known for her unwavering commitment to justice, community, and conservative values - and for the cowboy hat she wears every day.

Jennifer currently serves as the Van Zandt County Youth Diversion Coordinator. She led the development of a comprehensive countywide system that gives at-risk youth meaningful second chances. Jennifer authored the program’s policies and procedures, secured formal MOUs with all five municipal courts - a first in county history - and worked with Commissioners Court to establish funding and a formal operating budget. She also wrote and received state grant funding to support the initiative.

Known for her tough, honest, and no-nonsense approach, Jennifer holds youth accountable while earning the respect of families, schools, and justice partners alike. She works closely with the JPs, municipal courts, law enforcement, and school districts. Jennifer also partners with Juvenile Probation & Andrews Center staff to address mental health and behavioral challenges, further proving her credibility as a voice for at-risk youth. Under her leadership, the program is seen as a model, with neighboring counties looking to replicate its success.

Jennifer has over 25 years of courtroom experience, beginning as a municipal court clerk and later serving as a JP court clerk. She’s also stepped in to help two local municipalities during critical transitions, keeping court operations running smoothly which is a testament to her professionalism and reliability. Her law enforcement background includes supporting officers and investigators as a CID case manager. This combined experience has shaped her into a trusted and proven leader who understands how justice systems work.

Jennifer’s commitment to public service runs deep. She was married to Charlie, a career firefighter, until his passing, and now to Jason, a Van Zandt County Deputy Sheriff and SPCA animal cruelty investigator. She often says she went from Team Red to Team Blue but has always been rooted in public service.

Jennifer is a proud Republican, a member of the Republican Women of Van Zandt County, and the Canton Lions Club. She is a strong Christian, deeply rooted in her faith and committed to servant leadership. She and Jason are active members of Stonepoint Church, where they host a weekly small group in their home, a reflection of their shared commitment to both faith and community.

Whether in her hat at a courthouse or around the dinner table with the small group, Jennifer’s commitment to community is clear: she shows up, she serves, and she leads with purpose. Because for Jennifer, public service isn’t a role - it’s a way of life and she’d be honored to have your support.
